Five reasons to choose a bespoke CRM System over an off-the-shelf package

5th April 2019 By businessequip

Your business is unique and your clients are diverse. So why settle for an off-the-shelf customer relationship system? Instead, a bespoke CRM solution delivers many business benefits…

When you’re growing your business, it’s tempting to opt for already built and ready to go software systems. Time is money, and the sooner you can get cracking with the software you’ve bought, the better. Right?

Well, no; not necessarily.

True, HubSpot, CapsuleCRM, Pipedrive — or any other CRM solution on the market today — will do the job just fine. But when it comes down to it, a bespoke CRM system can offer features and benefits which far surpass a standard solution, taken off the shelf.

With a bespoke system, you can…

Work the way you want to

Even if you’re in a crowded industry, no other business operates the exact same way you do. When using a standardised CRM system, the way you work needs to flex to fit in with how that system has been built.

That doesn’t seem right, does it?

Ultimately, you want to invest in software that enables you to do to your job they way you see fit; not the other way around. Off-the-shelf CRM has a set structure; whereas a bespoke solution will be built from the ground up, with your business needs in mind.

Capture every piece of data you need

When it comes to your clients, the relationship you have with them may be different customer to customer, and in the services you provide them.

Is it asking too much, then, for a CRM system to acknowledge the individual relationships you have with your customer base? Not if you build a bespoke system, tailored to your specifics.

For example, most systems capture standard data — name, address, email, phone number etc. — but you may want something additional, which helps your business progress.

Or, you may want to alter the terms you use in data collection; post-code instead of zip-code, for example.

Simplify quality CRM

Unnecessary noise can distract from vital customer information. You shouldn’t need to trawl through unused content fields, features or functionalities which are irrelevant to your business needs.

An abundance of fields cloud and clutter the system, making it hard to navigate. What’s more: a messy system looks unwieldy and off-putting to employees, both new and existing.

A simplified, bespoke CRM collects only the data you need to know about; motivating employees by disentangling their workload.

Give all employees access to customer info

For a CRM system to really work, everyone in the organisation should have access to it.

This is often financially implausible, especially to small and medium businesses. CRM licences don’t come cheap; so with an off-the-shelf system, you may need to choose a select few team members to grant access to.

On the flip side, with a bespoke CRM solution there’s no licensing limitations. With everyone on the team able to access customer information, you’ll improve speed of customer service, saving company time (and therefore money!).

Be cost effective, in the long run

True, a bespoke system may require a larger upfront cost, versus a standardised solution.

But, as you’ll own the system and avoid high, monthly fees, you’ll likely end up saving money longterm with a custom-built CRM.

Even after a small hosting cost, because a bespoke system brings such a wealth of benefits, it truly is the savviest approach to customer relationship management.
